A busy week with Marichia!

First of all, welcome a new intern, Thu, to Healing the Wounded Heart Shop! We're all very happy to have her here for one year. ^^

Marichia arrived in Hue with her beloved friend Marcella about a week ago, first to help Thu with her transition to her new roles at HWH and also to get updated about the operation of the project and resolve any problem. It was a storm-raging week for all of us. There was a big heap of issues to fix and misunderstanding to clear up. Despite this, good things came to us and we embraced them wholeheartedly.

Marichia, with support of her friend Marcella, gave the shop a fresh and more inviting look. Two tables were brought to the front porch. Part of the tea room is now integrated into the shopping space, giving it as a whole a more welcoming atmosphere and also bringing more attention to the tea room.

A few days later on Sep. 3, the HWH family took a day off to visit two heart patients and their families as well as had a picnic at Thuan An beach together. The first patient is 17-year-old Le Xuan Ngo who was awaiting funding for his heart operation. The great new came at the visit when Marichia decided that SPIRAL would fund the rest. We then headed for Thuan An beach where we visited the second patient, little Duc. He was sleeping peacefully when the group arrived. We finally took off for the beach nearby and celebrated our hard work with Marichia and Marcella on a beautiful sunny afternoon with good food and warm ocean waves.

Video made by Lan Hue, a dear friend of HWH, of our visit to the heart patients

The amazing trip did not make all of us neglect our upcoming challenge yet a hug opportunity for HWH to move towards sustainability, the three trial runs with Travel Indochina (TIC) on Sep. 5, 6 and 8. TIC would bring us three groups of clients. The preparation time was hectic. But the trials turned out a big success and a great experience for both sides!

"I think it will make for a very successful 2012 inclusion," said Phil of TIC in an email. Finger crossed!

Kudos to the artisans at HWH for their hard work and Marichia for her guidance!
